How a pool party at a Mallorca villa actually runs
Bare feet, a cold drink, and nowhere to be. The easiest event we cater, and the one people plan least. Here is how a good one runs, what it costs, and the few things that quietly decide it.
The day after is the easy win
Your guests are already here, already know each other, and most of them do not fly until the evening. One more day together costs you almost nothing to organise.
No dress code. No seating plan. No speeches. Nothing to run late.
No timetable, one finish time
Early afternoon to early evening. People arrive slowly, eat when they want, swim, drift back. Food runs the whole time instead of arriving in courses.
Decide one thing in advance: when it ends. Six hours is the usual shape. A pool party with no finish time turns into an evening nobody planned, and the neighbours notice before you do.
Two ways we do it
Food truck style, €100 per person. The van, a six-hour open bar, and food served in your hand: tacos, quesadillas, smash burgers, hot dogs. All food, crystal-style glassware, staff, transport, ice and the full bar set-up are included.
Show cooking style, €130 per person. Paella or a barbecue cooked in front of everyone, a styled buffet station with plates and cutlery, and the same six-hour open bar. We lay on seating for roughly a quarter to a third of guests, which is the number that keeps people moving without leaving anyone standing.
Both are for fifty guests or more. Neither needs a timetable. The dishes and everything included are in the pool party menu.
Food that suits a pool
One rule: it should be good enough to talk about and simple enough to eat standing up. Short rib quesadillas, pulled pork tacos, fish tacos with chipotle mayo, lamb kofta pita. Cold watermelon between them.
What we avoid is anything needing a knife and fork, any sauce that splits in the heat, and any service that drags people out of the water to queue.
The bar decides the day
In the heat people drink steadily rather than in rounds. Piña coladas, sangria, palomas, margaritas, cold beer and wine, six hours of open bar, poured into proper glassware rather than plastic.
Where there is room we build two small bars instead of one big one: one at the pool, one in the shade. A little more staff, and the only queue of the day disappears. Prefer to buy your own drinks? We will just run the service.
What the villa decides
More of this is set by the house than by us. Check before you book:
- Music and neighbours: most villas have a hard stop. This is the one that catches people out.
- Glass by the water: some houses ban it outright. We can run the whole bar without it, and nobody will feel short-changed.
- A lifeguard: drinking plus a pool. We can arrange one.
- Shade: July with nowhere to sit out of the sun empties a party early.
- Parking and power: where the van goes, what we can plug into.
- Clearing up: most owners want everything gone the same evening.
Extras worth having
Inflatables, beer pong, personalised towels, sun loungers dressed properly. None of it costs much, and it is the difference between a pool with people around it and a party. A DJ does more than all of them together, and we can put you in touch with people we have worked with.
Skip anything that needs everyone's attention at once. This is the one day of the weekend with no running order.
Or just do brunch
If the group cannot face a pool party, the morning after does the same job and ends earlier. Breakfast, Bloody Marys, mimosas, juice, two hours before the airport. Plenty of weekends do both: brunch for everyone, the pool for whoever is still standing.
